About Us
Since 1986, the Commission for Women of Bossier City has strived to address the needs of women in the Bossier Parish Community. The Commission was instrumental in organizing the YEP Program, a program that addressed latchkey kids and gave parents an alternative to after school care. We have also served as ambassadors for the Mayor and City Officials at special functions, the most memorable being Bossier City’s 100th birthday where we served cake to hundreds of people at the Louisiana Boardwalk. In June of 2009 the Commission held its first ever “Ladies A Fair” Where we hosted vendors and booths that addressed many women’s issues. We also had mini seminars that addressed how to write a resume and apply for a job, self-defense, and dressing for success. We also had the Shots For Tots and Life Share Blood drive vans.
For many years, the Commission participated in the annual Celebration of Women Week by presenting the closing luncheon. In 2012, the Commission expanded their activity during Women’s History Month by offering “Inspiring Women Week”. This exciting and busy time includes a kickoff breakfast, 5 daily events focused on women and a luncheon supporting the nonprofit organization selected by the CWBC for that year. This luncheon is held at the Bossier Civic Center and has continued to grow in support of the women in our area.
In keeping with our mission, the Commission established a program for high school senior women representing each of the Bossier Parish Schools. The Commission mentors these outstanding students throughout the entire school year to develop well-rounded young women by providing them a firsthand experience in various components of business and our community. Our intent is to create forward thinking women leaders and ambassadors for the Bossier City area. They are our future.
