Celebration of Women's Week Luncheon

The Bossier Women's Commission has been involved with this weeklong event hosted by the YWCA since its inception. It has been our role to sponsor a luncheon during this week. This event highlights the Mayor's Commission for Women of Bossier City and also allows us to help with domestic violence in this area.

This event is usually held in March of each year and is well-attended by many dignitaries and the community at large. In addition to a presentation from the YWCA, the luncheon usually includes a keynote speaker or luncheon panel.

Any profits made from the luncheon are given to the to assist in addressing domestic violence in the Shreveport-Bossier area.

In 2007, the Mayor's Commission for Women of Bossier City was named a recipient of the YWCA's annual "Women Who Make A Difference Award."

In 2010 and 2011, the Commission presented "Ladies! A Fair" trade show with booths for agencies who provide services for women and businesses who market to women at the Bossier Civic Center. In conjunction with the event in 2011, the Commission published the "Women's Resource Book" with a comprehensive listing of area agencies and organizations offering services for women and families.

In 2012, the Commission expanded their activity during Women's History Month by offering "Inspiring Women Week", events include a Kickoff Breakfast with an inspirational speaker, an evening networking event, a "Face Fair" presented by two Dermatologists, a Family Day, a cooking demonstration, a personal finance seminar and a luncheon at Bossier Civic Center honoring Women in the Military. Proceeds from the week of events are donated to the Providence House Domestic Violence Shelter and the Family Support Center at Barksdale AFB.
